Fastest cars in the world. Fastest hypercars in the world.
If you remember any year off by heart, the year 1886 should be the one that sticks in your head. Why? It is regarded as the birth year of the modern car when German inventor Karl Benz patented his Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Pretty cool, huh? Cars became widely available in the early 20th century. One of the first cars accessible to the masses and not just the elite was the 1908 Model T, an American car manufactured by the Ford Motor Company. Well done, Henry Ford (he’s the guy who started Ford, in case you were wondering). Bravo to you!
Now that we’re all addicted to this awesome machine that takes us wherever we need to go, we shift our focus to the fastest cars in the world with our list of the speediest machines of our century.
2021 cars are lighter, sleeker and more powerful than anything that we’ve ever seen before. Now some cars are boasting top speeds of 480km/h.
We’ve done our research and narrowed it down to 7 cars you should keep your eye on if you can because they are THAT fast.
Ladies and gentlemen, start your engines. Here we go!
Fastest cars in the world
- Hennessey Venom GT
In 2014, on Valentine’s Day, to be exact (we couldn’t think of a better time if you have a love for cars, can you?) John Hennessey of Hennessey Performance declared an end (for a time, anyway) to his feud with Bugatti. After years of competing, the American car manufacturer saw his Venom GT seize the World Record for Fastest Car on NASA’s Kennedy Space Center’s runway.
The Venom GT took two years to engineer and develop. To date, 29 were made with a whopping price tag of 1.2 Million dollars. That’s
The supercar itself is gorgeous, with sinuous curves and a sleek body. Featuring an ultra-light carbon-fibre chassis, the Venom GT almost reads feline, as if it’s a black panther poised to leap forward at any second.
And leap, it does: The Venom GT reached a top speed of a then-unprecedented 270mph or 434 km/h. Furthermore, while performing its World Record tests, it achieved an acceleration of 0-100km/h or 0-60 mph in 3.05 seconds.

- Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
The insanely quad-turbocharged W16 engine that powers the Chiron upgraded the speed of this iconic supercar. While it may no longer be the fastest car out there, Bugatti’s Chiron Super Sport 300+ has a claim to fame that will go down in history for years and years to come. This is because it was the first very first car to break the barrier of 300mph, which is 483km/h in SA terms. It stands for flawless beauty and balance between form and function. With an acceleration from 0-100 kilometres per hour in 2.4 seconds, this Bugatti certainly has speed and style, all at the same time. What more could you want?

- Hennessey Venom F5
Hennessey says its Venom F5 carries on where the Venom GT left off. Named after the very fastest type of tornado you get. It jets off at lightning speed with a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V8 and produces 1354 kW. We will explain what kW mean in an upcoming article but for now, let’s just say, the higher the number, the faster the car. So it’s no wonder why it’s capable of 0 – 100km/h in under two seconds. Top speed? Over 480ish km/h, of course. It was built to help smash a world record previously broken with the GT in our list above. Unfortunately, only 24 were ever made, and the price is a cool +- 23 million Rand.
- Bugatti Bolide
After so much success with the Chiron Super Sport, you would think the guys at Bugatti would be celebrating. But nope! They wanted to do better! How do you better perfection on wheels? Just ask historic auto house Bugatti that question. They will say it’s simple. They call it the Bugatti Bolide. It’s a lightweight supercar that is sure to show the world just how beautiful, powerful and innovative Bugatti cars really are. It uses the same engine that’s in the Chiron (also in our list), but the Bolide has even more turbos. Did you know it even only stands 39.2 inches off the ground? Watch out for those speed bumps and potholes, guys! The top speed is a scary 498km/,h and you’ll reach 100 km/h in just 2.17 seconds. But guess what? That’s still not even the fastest car on our list yet. SHOCK to the ING UR-Eekahians!

- Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Stealing the number 2 spot is the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. Quite a mouthful to say we know. But keep practising because anything that has a top speed of 531 km/h is worth remembering.
While it might look like only two car companies are competing for top speed, if you take a look at our list so far. It’s now time to throw in another car company—Swedish car manufacturer Koenigsegisre also a firm favourite about speed enthusiasts.
The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – a hypercar, brings a lot of heat to this fast-paced game, and for a long time, it was considered the fastest car in the world.
They updated their old, car the Agera RS (which was also hyper f, as in case you’re surprised) and made sure it was handled better. They also made it more aerodynamic for crazy performance. But
The Jesko Absolut hits a top speed of 531km/h. We don’t know much about the acceleration at this stage as Koenigsegg hasn’t released any info yet, but with that sort of top speed, we have no doubt it will be out of this world.

And now for the showstopper and number 1 on our list of fastest hypercars in the world. We introduce to you the SCC Tuatara.
Based in North America, the SSC or Shelby SuperCars (if you want to say the whole thing) built something really special with this car that’s packed to the brim with the latest technology. In October 2020, in Nevada, on an 11 km stretch of road, SSC confirmed their fastest supercar had reached a breathtaking speed of over 530km/h. If you were already dreaming about zipping around in one of these babies at a rapid pace you will have to shed a tear or two. The car isn’t road legal because it uses a camera system instead of mirrors to help with steering. Oh boo!
Featuring a 5.9 litre twin-turbo V8 motor with a price tag of 1.8 million dollars, It has a soul-shaking acceleration of just 2.5 seconds. To put that in perspective, it’s the same amount of time it takes you to text hi to your friend on WhatsApp. Oh my……
