If you’re not so much into fashion or design, don’t fret! Italy has something to offer for everyone.
Do you love nature? Wild boars, wolves and bears inhabit Italy. (Oh my) It’s also home to Ibex (those wild goats with huge horns that manage to balance on the tiniest ledges), Corsican hares and Sardinian Long-eared bats.
Italy’s shores touch not only the incredible beauty of the Tyrrhenian Sea but also the Mediterranean! You’ll find the Italian Lake District where famous actors, musicians, and politicians like to spend their summer vacations to the north of the country. The two most famous lakes are called Lake Como and Lake Garda. Magical!
That’s not all the northern parts of Italy have to offer. It’s also home to the Italian Alps. The Alps stretches across 7 European countries and is approximately 1,200 km long! Whoa! That’s a mere 200km less than the distance between Cape Town and Johannesburg!
The rocky fun doesn’t stop there.
Did you know that all three of Europe’s active volcanoes are located in Italy? Now they’re just showing off! They are called Mount Etna in Sicily, Mount Stromboli on an island just of Sicily and Vesuvius.
This bad boy caused some major problems for the residence in the ancient city of Pompeii in 79 B.C. By the way, keep an eye out for a cool article about Pompeii in our History section in Let’s Discover.
Pompeii is located super close to Naples. Why do we love Naples? It’s the birthplace of Pizza! Yummy! Thank you to the inventors who made the world a more tasty place back in 1860. We can thank Italy for a lot of our food history.
If food, fashion, design and natural wonders don’t tickle your fancy, how about their historical monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites? Or even famous Italian artists like Michelangelo and Da Vinci! But that’s a story for another time (because there are so many!)
Italy is awesome! Sixty-two million international visitors can’t be wrong.
